O’Quinn snags a Top 25 at Richmond

Richmond, Va. – Danny O’Quinn Jr. enjoyed a great homecoming Sunday as he logged a solid Top 25 finish upon returning to his native Virginia.

O’Quinn, who grew up in Coeburn, Va., finished 24th at Richmond International Raceway in the rescheduled Emerson Radio 250, his first NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the year.

The series’ 2006 Raybestos Rookie of the Year started 42nd after qualifying was rained out on Friday and the field was set by car-owner points. That meant he would have to bring the No. 56 Barr-Nunn Transportation Inc. Chevy Monte Carlo SS from the back of the pack to have a shot at a good finish.

And that’s exactly what O’Quinn and the Mac Hill Motorsports crew did. With some key adjustments on pit road, the 56 team continued to improve their hot rod as the laps wound down at the ¾-mile oval.

“I think we had a good car, and it got better all night,” said Mac Hill team owner Jack McNelly.

McNelly also praised his driver, saying O’Quinn “did a heck of a job.”

O’Quinn said he was pleased with the finish but a little disappointed that he couldn’t take better advantage of track position, which became a key factor in the race.

However, he said, “We showed we had potential, I think.”

And O’Quinn thanked Pro Motor Engines and all of Mac Hill’s sponsors for their support. In addition to Barr-Nunn, Mac Hill had associate sponsorship at Richmond from two Fredericksburg, Va., area businesses: Crozier Environmental and Professional Image Advertising. Based in Locust Grove, Va., Crozier Environmental is a full-service heating and air-conditioning contractor; Professional Image Advertising is a marketing company headquartered in Fredericksburg.

“Without these folks, we simply couldn’t go racing,” he said. “So they always have my gratitude.”

The driver also welcomed Barr-Nunn representative Jim Pardoe and owner-operator Al Cremeans and his wife, Rachel, who attended the race and rooted him on. And he sent best wishes to Jordan Ridnour, one of his fans in Iowa, who has been battling illness for some time.

“It’s really humbling to have great folks like these supporting me,” O’Quinn said. “They’re what keep me going, keep me motivated.”
