FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 28, 2007, Mooresville, N.C. – Mac Hill Motorsports is pleased to announce that Roush Fenway Racing’s Danny O’Quinn Jr. will drive a limited schedule in the No. 56 Chevy Monte Carlo SS during this year’s NASCAR Busch Series season.
O’Quinn, the 2006 Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year, will open Mac Hill’s 2007 campaign March 24 in the Sharpie Mini 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The race will give O’Quinn an opportunity to reunite both with fans near his hometown of Coeburn, Va., and with Mac Hill crew chief Tony Lambert.
Lambert and O’Quinn previously worked together in the ARCA and USAR Hooters Pro Cup series. So when Roush Fenway allowed O’Quinn to pursue additional driving opportunities this year, connecting with Mac Hill was “kind of a no-brainer,” the young driver said.
Indeed, adding great race cars to a successful driver-crew chief combination has O’Quinn fired up about Mac Hill’s prospects this year.
“I’m really excited about the program,” he said.
So is Mac Hill team owner Jack McNelly. He said he really appreciates Roush Fenway’s willingness to let one of its drivers compete with another team.
“I’m very grateful that Roush Fenway would give him permission to drive our car,” McNelly said. “We consider that a compliment from such a respected organization.”
McNelly also said O’Quinn meshes well with the entire Mac Hill crew.
“He fits our organization like a glove,” he said. “He’s just a fine young man with exceptional talent who just wants to race.”
The next step in the process for Mac Hill will be to find a primary sponsor, McNelly said, but that quest is also significantly improved by having one of NASCAR’s bright young stars in the driver’s seat for the team’s first race of the year.
